Starting the 1st February from 11:00 until 12:00, Age Concern Marbella & San Pedro, will be running a six week Mindfulness & Grief group. The sessions are aimed at those who have lost a loved one, and you are encouraged to share your personal struggles with others who have experienced a similar loss.
Mindfulness techniques will be used enabling the group to recognise the reality of their circumstances, and to do so in a non-judgmental and self-compassionate way. Originally hosted and conducted by Dr. Alexandra Geller, has informed Age Concern that the programme can go ahead despite restrictions, as a mental health service in a medical centre.

More about Mindfulness and Dealing with Grief
What is mindfulness?
The practice of mindfulness helps people steady their mind, relax their body, and make meaning from their loss. Mindfulness can help people cope with difficult emotions without denying the reality of the pain. The Mindfulness and Dealing with Grief 6 week group will focus on many elements of grief. This includes coping with the physical symptoms of loss.
To cope, you must ask yourself what physical sensations are you feeling in your body?
The most common physical symptoms are:
- hollowness in your stomach
- tight heart and chest area
- aching arms
- shortness of breath
- low energy
- dry mouth
- muscle weakness
- nausea, and loss of coordination
- insomnia or change in sleeping patterns
Just to name a few.
About Age Concern Marbella & San Pedro
Age Concern Marbella and San Pedro is keen to tackle the loneliness that many suffer in their later years in Spain, without their families here to take care of them. We hold a coffee morning on the 1st Thursday of every month at Real Club Padel Marbella, behind the Sisu Hotel, opposite Blue Bay Hotel.
This is an opportunity to meet other people living in the area. We also plan to have lunches and visits to places of interest in the area from time to time. If you just want someone to speak to or a lift to the supermarket, doctor, hospital etc., we would be delighted to assist you getting to the places or even going for you!
Should you be struggling with the Spanish paperwork we all have to deal with, we can also assist you in filling forms.
