This week from Feburary 17th to the 24th, The Contemporary Art Centre of Malaga celebrates its 15th anniversary. In celebration, the CAC Malaga will host more than 20 activities ranging from guided tours, Family Day, round tables, dance, lectures, workshops, poetry recitals, concerts and screenings. This includes a photo contest on social networks and a trivia quiz on knowledge about the CAC Málaga, all in celebration.

The CAC Málaga would like to thank all the people of Malaga and other visitors for their unconditional support, which along with the daily work of the museum have managed to place the Contemporary Art Center of Malaga in these fifteen years as a center of reference both nationally and internationally. The center opened its doors in February 2003, thus, it has been the art of Málaga for fifteen years. The first museum that opened its doors to the city of Malaga, a series of brilliant museums that have made this “Malaga City of Museums.” Fifteen years organizing the most pioneering exhibitions with the most original artists, holding free activities every week, and guided tours for schools, institutes or groups most requested throughout the city.

Festivities will begin on Saturday, February 17 with a special day dedicated to families. Come and enjoy various activities while reviving the artistic spirit in both children and adults. The Escondida Play is a game for families that will start at 11 am (free registration on the web or by filling in the registration form in the center).

At the reception of the museum, a sheet of paper will be given to each family with 5 clues for each work they must find. Once found, the youngest will have to capture the hidden works. Once all have been found, they must be delivered to the museum’s reception before 13.30, then at 2:00 p.m. in the Projects Space, the winners will be announced. There will be a gift for all families and prizes for the most original and fastest. Also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. RetratARTE will take place, an activity in which the tool is time and the medium creativity (place esplanade of the CAC Málaga). In addition, from 12 to 13 h, Mery Cuentacuentos will visit the Agapea bookstore to tell the stories of the most famous artists of their planet (full capacity).

On Monday, February 19, the series of round tables will begin with some of the most outstanding Andalusian and Andalusian cultural agents, who will debate on “Malaga City of Museums”. As moderator: Javier López, and in the round table will participate the cultural agents: Javier Bermúdez, Pablo Bujalance, Fernando del Valle, Pedro Alarcón, Javier Marín, Javier Calleja and Fernando Francés, free admission until full capacity in the Assembly Hall from the CAC Málaga at 8pm.

Tuesday, February 20 from 6 to 7 pm There will be a guided tour of the Stephan Balkenhol exhibition, where you can enjoy a selection of the most significant works made in recent years by the German artist. Balkenhol, who has not exhibited in a museum in Spain for more than ten years, uses wood as the main material to create his everyday characters, keeping the marks of the direct carving process in his sculptures. Also at 18 h. The conference “Masterpieces of the CAC Málaga”, by Ignacio Araújo, will take place in the Assembly hall of the CAC Málaga about the most outstanding exhibitions of these fifteen years of the center. Free admission until full capacity is reached. In addition to 19 to 20 h. another guided tour will be made, this time at the Passion II exhibition. Carmen Riera Collection. The exhibition is a selection of international contemporary art from the late twentieth century to the present, with a very representative vision of the latest avant-gardes and the interest of artists to explore and experiment with new materials and techniques never before used in works of art.

To end the day, from 20 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. the CAC Málaga in collaboration with the British Council organizes the screening of the BAFTA Shorts 2017, where you can enjoy the best and most outstanding British short films of the year. From humor to drama, from documentary to fiction, from stop-motion to animation; The formats, themes and genres of these short films reflect the diversity of creation made in UK. Free admission until full capacity (not suitable for children under 16).

On Wednesday, February 21 from 6 to 7 pm. the CAC Málaga organizes, in collaboration with the Agapea bookstore, an intimate poetry recital. Set in the exhibition hall and imbued with art, poetry finds two aspects that represent a counterpoint and relate to the theme of the work exhibited. We will have Xenon and a sign language interpreter, who will adapt the verses for the public. After this activity, from 7pm to 8pm. in collaboration with the Superior Dance Conservatory of Malaga, the contemporary dance performance of the students of the conservatory will take place in Space 1 interacting with the exhibition Stephan Balkenhol. Free admission until full capacity is reached. Finally, the projection in the auditorium from 8pm to 10pm. “NISE, or coraçao da loucura”, 2016, Roberto Berliner, 106 min, VOSE, in collaboration with the Brazilian Embassy. Upon returning to work in a psychiatric hospital, Dr. Nise da Silveira, proposes a new form of treatment to patients suffering from schizophrenia, initiating a new way of dealing with patients, through love and art.

On Thursday, February 22 from 5.30 to 6.30. In collaboration with Scriptorium Yayyan, the CAC Málaga organizes a lighting and medieval exhibition in Space 1 where you can learn what kind of materials and pigments are used, as well as learn about live examples of contemporary applications of the different techniques. Free admission until full capacity is reached. After the show, the second session of dance of the students of the conservatory will take place in Space 1, with free admission until full capacity from 19 to 20 h. Finishing the activities on Thursday, will be screened in the auditorium from 8pm to 10pm. a collation of the wooden sculptures of Stephan Balkenhol the film “Malý pán (Little man)” 2015, Radek Beran, 84 min, VOSE, in collaboration with the Czech Center. The film is based on the children’s book “The Great Journey of Little Man” by Lenka Uhlirova and Jirí Stach. The adaptation is done through the representation by means of puppets. Free admission until full capacity is reached.

Friday, February 23 from 6 to 7 pm the CAC Málaga organizes the concert of Elena Sáenz in the framework of its XV Anniversary. Elena Sáenz creates harmonic and rhythmic bases with different instruments for the subsequent melodic-jazz improvisation with her main instrument, the flute. Free admission until full capacity in Space 1 of the CAC Málaga. At 7 p.m. coinciding the XV anniversary with the release date of his fourth album, the artist from Malaga El Kanka will perform a live showcase in the auditorium “El arte de saltar”. According to his own words, “a record of songs without artifice, with a point of evil that the others do not have and with touches of South American folklore”. Eleven songs for which he has had two very special collaborations: Jorge Drexler in the song “Por tu olor” and Ares and the Comparsa de Martínez Ares, one of the most relevant comparsas of the Carnival of Cádiz, in “Desde lejos”. To end the anniversary week, on Saturday, February 24, the RetratARTE activity will be repeated from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the esplanade of the CAC Málaga, for all those who want to repeat or could not participate in the session of the previous Saturday. In the afternoon, from 18 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. the CAC Málaga in collaboration with the company Entretiempos organizes a dance in the exhibition Todo es mucho by Secundino Hernández. Representing different moments of life, which like geometry with axiomatic systems are creating points in common, straight or curved, symbolizing rules or chains that are related to each other. Free admission until full capacity is reached. To finish the XV Anniversary of the CAC Málaga, in collaboration with the British Council, it will be screened at 8:00 p.m. the documentary “AMY”, 2015, Asif Kapadia, 128 min. The British singer Amy Winehouse and her exceptional fusion of jazz, R & B and ska, left us one of the most powerful and emotional voices in the history of music. Unpublished images that reflect the contradictions, hypersensitivity and immense talent of this great British artist. Free admission until full capacity is reached.
