Psychological action film continues production amid severe weather disruptions

Canary Islands — May 7, 2026 — Production of the international psychological action thriller with comedic elemen Island is currently underway across multiple locations in the Canary Islands, despite significant disruptions caused by extreme weather conditions. The film continues its shoot on location, highlighting both the resilience of the production team and the region’s growing importance as a global filming destination.

Directed and produced by Serhiy Skobun, Island is an ambitious international project combining psychological storytelling with large-scale action sequences. The film is being developed with a strong focus on practical effects and complex stunt coordination, requiring highly detailed planning and execution across all departments. The production has assembled a diverse international cast and crew, reflecting its global scope.

Among the cast is Kevin McNally, a British actor known for his extensive work in film, television, and theatre. McNally is widely recognized for his role as Joshamee Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and has also performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The film features complex action sequences, including large-scale vehicle stunts and carefully choreographed scenes that require precision across multiple units. According to the production team, only 10 to 12 seconds of final footage are often achieved from a full day of filming, reflecting the technical complexity and attention to detail required for the project.

Filming was temporarily disrupted when the Canary Islands were affected by two severe cyclones, which brought heavy rainfall and flooding across several regions. Production was paused during this period but has since resumed across multiple locations. The director noted that while the weather created significant challenges, the team adapted quickly to ensure continuity of the shoot.

The Canary Islands continue to establish themselves as a major hub for international film production, offering diverse natural landscapes ranging from volcanic terrain to coastal environments, as well as favourable filming conditions and tax incentives. Island joins a growing list of international projects choosing the region as a primary filming location.

With its blend of psychological tension and high-intensity action, Island is scheduled for international release in 2026.
